IS200EPSMG2A Application Control Layer Module is a product manufactured in the EX2100 excitation control series. It generates excitation current to control the AC terminal voltage and/or reactive volt-ampere of the generator. The IS200EPSMG2A is a thyristor excitation system suitable for newly installed and modified steam, gas and hydraulic turbines.

The exciter is a flexible modular system that can be assembled to provide a range of available output currents and several levels of system redundancy. These options include power sources from potential, composite or auxiliary power sources. Single or multiple Bridges, hot backup Bridges, and single or redundant controls can be used. The overview of the excitation system of the steam turbine generator is shown in the figure.

EX2100 Excitation Control

The EX2100 hardware is contained in cabinets as follows:
• Control cabinet for the control, communication, and I/O modules
• Auxiliary cabinet for field flashing and protection circuits such as de-excitation and shaft voltage suppression
• Power conversion cabinet for the power SCR cells, cooling fans, dc contactors, and ac disconnect

EX2100 Excitation Control

The control boards are located in the control module. This module consists of the exciter backplane (EBKP) and the metal chassis that holds the boards (refer to the figure Control Module (Redundant)). In simplex controls applications, an ESBP backplane is used (refer to the figure Control Module (Simplex)). The control boards are as follows:
