On August 20, 2025, Honeywell announced the acquisition of three utility platforms from SparkMeter, Inc., a leading provider of grid management solutions, to expand its smart energy product portfolio. This acquisition covers SparkMeter’s intellectual property rights and some related assets.
SparkMeter’s grid intelligence technology will be integrated with Honeywell’s existing technologies, significantly enhancing the capabilities of “Honeywell Forge Performance + Utility Solutions”, enabling it to provide scalable and data-driven solutions to facilitate the modernization of grid infrastructure. And deal with the increasing energy demand. The platforms acquired by Honeywell this time include Praxis, GridScan and GridFin.
Amol Motivala, president of Honeywell’s Smart Energy business, said: “As energy demand continues to grow, utility companies are facing new challenges that may affect their ability to rapidly and efficiently modernize infrastructure to meet demand.” By combining these technologies of SparkMeter with ‘Honeywell Forge Performance + Utility Solutions’, we will provide customers with advanced tools to automate, simplify and optimize daily planning, operation and existing grid assets. The expansion of the smart energy product portfolio will ensure that customers can efficiently respond to changes in energy demand – providing utility enterprises with more comprehensive data management, business intelligence and analysis capabilities.
Since June last year, Honeywell has been making a series of major moves and has achieved a number of strategic measures to promote endogenous growth and simplify its product portfolio. This includes value-added acquisitions totaling 14 billion US dollars: Acquired Compressor Controls Corporation, SCADAfence, the access control solutions business under Carrier Global, Civitanavi Systems, and CAES Systems Corporation, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) business under Air Products, Sundyne Corporation, the catalyst technology business of Johnson Matthey, and Li-ion Tamer Corporation. Furthermore, Honeywell completed the transaction of selling its personal Protective equipment business to Protective Industrial Products in May 2025.
Honeywell International was founded in 1906 by Mark C. Honeywell. Its history can be traced back to 1885 when the inventor Albert Butz obtained the patent for the furnace standard instrument and alarm. After numerous business expansions and company mergers, Honeywell merged with United Signal Corporation in 1999 to form the current Honeywell International. At present, the company’s headquarters is located in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. As a diversified multinational enterprise, Honeywell has a wide range of business operations, covering aerospace products and services, industrial and residential building control technologies, automotive products, turbochargers, and specialty materials, among others. It has approximately 110,000 employees, about 44,000 of whom are in the United States. It has long been listed among the Fortune 100 companies. In the global fields of industrial automation, aerospace, etc., Honeywell, with its profound technological accumulation and continuous innovation, holds a pivotal position and constantly injects strong impetus into the development of various industries.
Previously, Honeywell has announced plans to spin off its “Aerospace Technologies” and “Solstice Advanced Materials” businesses. After the spin-off is completed, three listed industry leading enterprises with unique strategies and growth drivers will be formed.
This acquisition is not only a key move by Honeywell to deepen its presence in the smart energy sector, but also, by integrating the three core platforms of SparkMeter, provides more comprehensive technical support for utility enterprises to address challenges such as grid modernization and energy cost control. Combining its previous business spin-offs and a series of strategic acquisitions, Honeywell is continuously optimizing its business structure and strengthening its core capabilities. This not only conforms to the global trend of energy transition and automation but also solidifies its competitive edge in the smart energy and utility solutions market. In the future, with the implementation and application of technology integration, Honeywell is expected to further assist customers in enhancing energy operation efficiency, while contributing to the sustainable upgrade of global energy infrastructure.
